The phrase "family-centered care" at Riley has taken on a new dimension with construction of the Simon Family Tower. Now, "family" includes the workers responsible for the new facility. Riley patients and construction workers take a monthly doughnut-and-coffee break together. The gathering is part of the Look Beyond the Walls program, designed to familiarize those working outside the hospital's walls with those who will benefit from their efforts. Over the holidays, construction workers provided gifts for two Riley families that otherwise would have had a much smaller celebration. They also collected $2,000, games and toys the Child Life department used for inpatients. Although they're the givers, these construction workers feel as if they’re on the receiving end. Many times construction workers do not get recognized for their efforts," they wrote in a note to the Look Beyond the Walls committee, "but on this job, we have been. It is nice to feel appreciated." Our thanks to the Look Beyond the Walls committee:
