Working with Your Child's Primary Care Doctor

If you have concerns about a specialist recommended by your insurance company, it may be a good idea for you and your child's doctor to write to the specialist as well as the insurance company. If the specialist primarily sees adults, request his or her qualifications and experience in treating children. Be specific about your child's condition. If the specialist does not feel qualified to care for your child, he or she should notify the insurance company and request that a qualified pediatric specialist be chosen.

Physicians and families must work together as advocates for children's health care.
