Research Information
- Since its inception, the Center has been active in research sponsored by the National Institute
of Mental Health (NIMH), private foundations, and pharmaceutical companies.
- From 1997 to 2003, the Center was one of three Research Units on Pediatric Psychopharmacology
(RUPPs) funded by the NIMH to study autism (principal investigator (PI), Christopher McDougle,
M.D.).
- NIMH also recently awarded the center a RUPP-Psychosocial Intervention grant in order to study
the interaction between medication and behavioral treatments for autism.
- The Center has been awarded two Young Investigator Awards (PI, David Posey, M.D.) and an
Independent Investigator Award (PI, Christopher McDougle, M.D.) by the National Alliance for
Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD).
- The Center’s goals for the coming years include expanding our psychopharmacological research,
in addition to exploring other investigational methods in elucidating the causes and treatment of
autism. Projects currently underway include exploring glutamatergic contributions to the
pathophysiology of autism, and the link between gastrointestinal symptoms and autism.
