Stand for Children

Participating department: Community Education
Serve with 25 other community leaders to plan, coordinate and conduct Stand for Children activities in Indianapolis on June 1 each year. In 2000 the activity took place at a press conference on Monument Circle where 72 community leaders picked up books and then took them to elementary schools, preschools, and child care settings to read to children. In 2001, the event will be held at an Indianapolis Indians ballgame.

Building Bright Beginnings

Participating department: Community Education
Worked with Building Bright Beginnings staff from the Governor's Office to develop a companion brochure to the Building Bright Beginnings calendar. This insert "Special Children Need Special Care" is inserted into each calendar and then given to all parents of newborns in hospitals throughout the state.
