Feedback Forms

This campaign focuses on providing information and education to all children and care providers about how to be "Safety Smart" to prevent and reduce injuries, one of the leading causes of death for children in our state and country.

Safety Smart Information Sheets

Information sheets guide children and adults on how to prevent leading causes of unintentional child injury. Camera ready copies are available by request.

Fire Safety

  • Preschool Learn Not to Burn Program - Orientation workshops are offered to preschool educators across Indiana to use the National Fire Protection Association's Preschool Learn Not to Burn Program as part of the Healthy Child Care Indiana initiative. A statewide network of "super trainers" is available to conduct orientation workshops that introduce childcare providers to the costs and dangers of fire and to teaching strategies and resources. This project was recognized as a Regional Finalist in Community Safety Programs for the 1999 Allstate Safety Leadership Awards.

Traffic Safety

  • Riley Riders and Striders Bike and Pedestrian Safety Program - Recognized nationally with an Honorable Mention by the Secretary of Transportation's Community Partnership Awards Program, this project provides a resource package to educators statewide interested in planning and presenting a bike and/or pedestrian safety course in local communities to children, ages 6-12. The resource package provides local educators with guidelines, course resources, and teaching materials.

Violence Prevention

  • Next Door Neighbors Puppet Program - Working with community partners, an interactive puppet program focuses on presentation of scripts that promote a message of alternatives to violence to children grades 3-5. Original curriculum provides activities for classroom teachers to use before and after puppet presentations.

Playground Safety

  • The Dirty Dozen - A slide presentation featuring 12 leading hazards to children on playgrounds is available to reinforce the priority of safety as teachers and community leaders develop or evaluate safe and accessible playgrounds.

  • Playground Resource Packet - This packet of resources, compiled by the Community Education and Child Advocacy Department, includes information and recommendations regarding accessibility, safety and appropriate planning of playgrounds for all children

Water Safety

  • Water Wise - Children of all ages and abilities need to know how to be safe near water, while swimming, and while riding in boats. Resources include a large floor mat water safety game available for loan to preschool and kindergarten classrooms and an instructional presentation on water safety equipment and water safety directed for elementary school age children.
