Kidometer Manual

Summary

The Riley Kidometer is a program for Palm PDAs. It will work on Treos*, Palms, old Sony PDAs and any PDAs running the Palm OS.

Kidometer is a comprehensive knowledge base of all of the age, gender and developmental normal values for kids.

  • Need to know the normal height for 4 year old? Check.
  • Need the normal weight for 8 year old with trisomy 21? Check.
  • What’s a normal insulin level in a 13 year old girl. Check.
  • What’s the normal Testosterone for a Tanner Stage 4 male? Check.

3 Taps to a World of Data

  1. One tap for years,
  2. A second for months
  3. And a third for gender

Boom! That’s it. Three taps and all the normal values for that child are in front of you.

Written by Doctors for Doctors

Kidometer was conceived by a Med-Peds physician and then editted by the staf of Riley Hospital for children. Kidometer was built with an Evidenced-Based Medicine philosophy and a commitment to transparency. All of the data is fully referenced so you know what you’re getting.

Kidometer has 12 chapters providing rapid access to all of the age based normals you need:

  1. Adolescent Labs includes normal values for labs that vary depending on the sexual development (Tanner Stage) of an adolescent patient.
  2. Basic Vitals has the normal range for weight, height, head circumference, blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate and peak flows.
  3. Cardiology and EKG provides normal values for EKG findings that vary with age.
  4. Development lists skills that the child should have acquired. Failure to learn new skills is often the first clue to some of the most severe diseases of childhood.
  5. Endocrinology Labs has a complete database of all the normal hormone concentrations for growing children. One of the largest chapters in Kidometer, the Endocrinology chapter has 42 different lab values that vary with age and gender.
  6. Growth and Nutrition has detailed information on growth including: height velocity, daily caloric and protein requirements, along with age specific recommendations for feeding infants and children.
  7. Hematology is a complete list of normal blood counts and other laboratory clues to anemia.
  8. Laboratory has a complete list of normal laboratory values for children. Now includes values for CSF protein, WBC and glucose.
  9. Prevention is dedicated to giving age specific advice on keeping children healthy. It has information on injury/illness prevention, teaching parenting skills and other preventive health issues.
  10. Resuscitation gives a recommended size for endotracheal, foley and chest tubes. It also calculates the code doses for children at the 50% for weight in the selected age.
  11. Trisomy 21. Children with Down Syndrome grow differently than other children. So, we have included information on the normal height, weight and head size for these children.
  12. Vaccine gives specific, age-appropriate vaccination recommendations.
